JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for 2 Early-Stage Researchers (ESR)/PhD Researchers. They will be working under the framework of LeADS project. Their main task will be to collaborate to the Research and Training program LeADS and to eventually prepare their doctoral thesis in the same framework. The PhD thesis work will be undertaken at the University of Piraeus in the Department of Digital Systems (Piraeus, Greece). As doctoral students, the ESRs will be jointly supervised under the direction of the LeADS consortium and will spend also secondment(s) at Consortium members.

POSITIONS

  • ESR 10 Project Title: Data management and analytics considering also privacy properties on edge and serverless offerings.
    Objectives: Analysing the tools designed to protect against risks related to the exploitation of data and thereby refine the methodology of analysis of such risks; drawing a scheme of implementation of data management and analytics by also considering privacy properties (on top of other functional and non-functional properties) in edge computing and serverless offerings in order to modulate prevention of the risks and promotion of innovation. In addition it will: a) Suggest a renewed approach for resource management and provision / utilization of edge devices by individuals with specific privacy requirements; create appropriate instruments of information for the user, best practices for data brokers, and promote such instruments at an international level. b) Establish AI-driven processes to increase the user’s ability to define in a more accurate way both his offerings in edge computing environments and the data management and analytics . c) Draw the architecture in terms of data governance linked with the resources management on such dynamic environments.
  • ESR 11 Project Title: Empowering data owners by promoting PIMS in the FINTEC domain
    Objectives: Study digital platform and personal data. The project will study digital innovation and business models (e.g. multisided markets, freemium) dependent on the collection and use of personal data in different sectors such as the financial/insurance or ehealth domains. It will also: a) link this analysis to the exploration of online behaviour and reactions of users to different types of recommendations (i.e. personalized recommendations by financial/industrial applications) that generate additional personal data as well as large network effects; b) assess (efficiency, impact studies) the many specific privacy regulations that apply to online platforms, business models, and behaviours. (2) Proposal of a user centric data valorisation scheme by analysing user-centric patterns, the project aims to: a) Identify alternative schemes to data concentration, to place the user at the heart of control and economic valorisation of “his” data, whether personal or not (VRM platforms, personal cloud, private open data); b) Assess the economic impact of these new schemes, their efficiency, and the legal dimension at stake in terms of liability and respect of privacy. The project will also suggest new models allowing the user to obtain results regarding the explainability of the algorithms that are being utilized by organizations (e.g. finance / insurance companies, healthcare providers, etc) to provide the aforementioned personalized recommendations for their offerings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

All ESRs recruited will be expected to carry out the following roles:

  • To manage and carry out their research project within 36 months
  • To write a PhD dissertation within the theme and objectives proposed above
  • To participate in research and training activities within the LeADS network
  • To participate in meetings of the LeADS projects
  • To disseminate their research to the non-scientific community, by outreach and public engagement
  • To liaise with the other research staff and students working in broad areas of relevance to the research project and partner institutions
  • To write progress reports and prepare results and articles for publication and dissemination via journals, presentations, videos and the web
  • To attend progress and management meetings as required and network with the other research groups

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Master of Science (MSc) degree or equivalent
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • In order to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Marie Curie ITN at the date of recruitment, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Greece for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not considered. Greek candidates can apply if they have resided in another country for more than 2 years of the last 3 years.
  • At the time of recruitment, the candidates cannot have already obtained a doctoral degree and must be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research career
